"Willowdale Pines

DESCRIPTION

Our cottage is located on the West shore of Gull Lake in the Haliburton Highlands region of Ontario cottage country.  Almost 7 miles long and about 1 mile wide in parts, Gull Lake is one of the larger lakes in this region.  We are a 10-15 minute drive south of the closest town, Minden.

The cottage is designed with three types of construction; the lower level is constructed of field stone, the main/ground level is of handcrafted log construction and the upper level is of Scandinavian timber frame construction (logs with timber frame joinery at the ends).  Virtually every aspect of this home's construction has been completed with premium materials and attention to detail, right from the custom built front door on in. In many ways, the view inside can be as captivating as the view outside, with huge pine logs carefully interconnected and rising to the rafters of the Great Room vaulted ceiling.  Except for the two field stone fireplaces, wood is everywhere.

"Willowdale Pines" has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.  It will accommodate 10 people quite comfortably (maximum is 12).  Altogether there are 4035 square feet of living space.

The main/ground level is dominated by the Great Room with its’ vaulted ceiling, field stone fireplace and log joinery all looking out onto Gull Lake.   The modern designer kitchen is fully appointed (see list below).  A large surface white Corian counter top ends at a breakfast bar with 3 bar-style chairs.  The dining room features a china buffet, dry sink and harvest table that can seat 12 with extensions attached.  Off of the dining room is a fully screened Haliburton Room that exits to the outdoor dining deck and BBQ.  This level had the Master bedroom with king bed and walk-in closet.  There is a private deck off the Master bedroom as well as a 6 piece ensuite bathroom (whirlpool tub).

The upper level has a queen bed in the second bedroom.  The third bedroom has a twin over full bunk bed. Each of these bedrooms have closets and drawers built into the pitched walls.  The upper level also has a sitting/reading area and a loft area that serves as the fifth bedroom (not enclosed) with a day bed and mattress on the floor if needed.   Alos in the loft area is a large writting desk with computer  (seasonal internet connectivity using Rogers Rocket hub) that looks out onto Gull Lake.   The upper level has a 4 piece bathroom.

The lower level is fully finished.  The Media Room has an air tight wood fireplace, large television entertainment system, a couch and really comfy reclining chairs.  Satellite service is available in the summer.  There is a surround sound system, a DVD, a VHS and an Xbox gaming system.  We have an extensive library of movies (DVD and VHS) and games.  The Recreation/Pool Room has a custom built bar with wine cooler and extra fridge and freezer.  This room features a 1948 Brunswick slate pool table (4 1/2 x 9).  The fourth bedroom is on this level (queen and single) and the couch in the Media Room can pull out to a queen.  The lower level has a 3 piece bathroom.

Outside, there is ample parking space that will easily fit four vehicles.  From the Media room walk out door there is a terraced stone stairway down to the waterfront (105 ft frontage).  A small fire pit and a single bedroom Bunkie are on the landing area closest to the water.  Our romantic Bunkie getaway is newly finished and provides a peaceful area to relax and listen to the waves lap up on the shoreline.  The Bunkie has a queen bed, night table, bar fridge and a combination DVD/VHS/TV (no satellite) but no running water.  A pathway from the Bunkie winds towards the boathouse and down (via wood stairs off of the deck) to the sandy beach area.  Sand is firm along the beach shoreline and for a few paces into the water.  Lakebed has silt as you go deeper.  Water shoes are suggested for the occasional sharp stone or clam shell.  A deck around the side of the boathouse leads to the dock with mooring whips for a motorboat.  There is a 15 foot diameter rave water trampoline (huge hit with the kids) and a floating raft (both shared with neighbour to the south) a short swim from the dock.  Water levels fluctuate but generally it is more than 5 feet deep off of the dock.  Watercraft included are a fiberglass canoe, paddleboat, aluminum rowboat and three kayaks.

Maximum occupany is determined by the Febic system capacity (not the number of beds).  This cottage is limited to a continuous (as in overnight) occupancy of 10 (6 adults + 4 children).  Daytime guests are welcome but if the total number of occupants will exceed 12 then permission is required.

Smoking in the cottage or on the premises is not permitted

 Pets are not permitted

A security/damage deposit of $2000 is required.  (This deposit will be reduced for repeat renters in good standing)

Pillows, blankets and quilts are all provided.  Bedroom linens, bathroom linens and kitchen linens are all provided but must be laundered either by the renter themselves prior to leaving or by prior contract of the linens service for $125.         In order to provide consistent and thorough cleanliness, a professional cleaning service will come in to clean the cottage at the end of the rental and in time for the next rental.  The cost ($200) of this cleaning service is built into the Peak rental rate.  It is understood that this cleaning service is provided to make departure less burdonsome but it is not a license to be filthy.  Anyone using the cottage must keep it relatively clean during their stay otherwise insects and pests will flourish.

Our Loon call is dedicated to Ella in memory of Sandra; may their magical calls always remind you of her love.
